upright UG (haftungsbeschränkt) ("upright," "we," "us," or "our") makes the StepGate app and operates this website. This Privacy Policy explains what information StepGate and this site handle, and the choices you have. Our approach is simple, and it is the whole point of the product: we collect as little as possible, and StepGate keeps your data on your device.

1. What the StepGate app accesses, and why

• Physical activity (Health Connect): steps, exercise sessions, active calories, and distance are read from Health Connect to measure your progress toward your goal or earned-time budget. This data is read on your device and used only for that calculation.
• App usage / foreground app (Usage Access, optional Accessibility): StepGate detects which app is currently in the foreground so it can show the lock screen over apps you chose to block. It does not read the content of those apps.
• Your block list and settings: the apps you select and your mode/goal/schedule are stored locally (Room database and DataStore preferences).
• Display over other apps: used only to draw the lock screen.
• Notifications: used only to show the required ongoing service notification.

2. What StepGate does NOT do

• It does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal or health data.
• It has no backend server and creates no user account.
• It does not track your location, contacts, messages, photos, or screen content.
• It contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs that exfiltrate data.

3. This website

madebyupright.com is a static site. It loads no third-party fonts, scripts, analytics, or embeds, sets no cookies, and has no contact or sign-up forms, so it does not ask you for or collect personal information. As with any website, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, timestamp, and the page requested) for security and to keep the site running; those logs are handled by the host and are not used to identify you.

4. Purchases

StepGate Premium is offered as a subscription through Google Play Billing. Payment is handled by Google Play, which acts as the merchant of record; StepGate does not receive or store your payment details. You manage or cancel the subscription in your Google Play account.

5. We do not sell or share your personal information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. In practice we hold essentially no personal information about you: StepGate keeps your data on your device, and this website collects none.

6. Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information a business collects about you, to request access to or deletion of it, to correct inaccurate information, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and not to be treated differently for exercising these rights. Because StepGate keeps your data on your device and we do not collect, sell, or share it, there is generally no personal information for us to disclose, delete, or stop selling — but you may still contact us to exercise these rights and we will respond as required by law.

7. Data retention and deletion

All StepGate data is local to your device. You can delete it at any time by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling StepGate. Uninstalling removes all StepGate data.

8. Children

StepGate is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them (it does not collect personal data from anyone).

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent version.
